Identity Card Preview Releasing on 29th August

India films have been popular in the West. Over the past five-ten years, Bollywood has built a reputation for its own desi versions of Indie films. This new breed of Bollywood cinema has proved to be a great alternate to big blockbusters and masala-packed action films. Made in English and Hindi both, or sometimes marked as hybrid Hinglish, these films have gained a steady fan following. From Hyderabad Blues to Bheja Fry and Tanu Weds Manu to Vicky Donor, these alternate string of films have kept us equally engaged and entertained. Finding Fanny is a new satirical film, directed and written by Homi Adajania, that continues in the vein of meaningful cinema. The drama is produced by Dinesh Vijan under Maddock Films and presented by Fox Star Studios. Deepika Padukone, Naseeruddin Shah, Dimple Kapadia, Pankaj Kapur, and Arjun Kapoor feature in prominent roles. Finding Fanny premiers in Mumbai two weeks before the film's world release with oomph and confidence. Finding Fanny revolves around five characters who arc partly amusing and partly dysfunctional. Set in the village of Pocolim, in the heart of Goa, the movie depicts typical life in the village: slow paced and adventure free. However, the monotony of daily life is broken when Ferdie (Naseeruddin Shah), receives a letter that is slipped under his door. He realizes that it is the letter he had written 46 years ago to the love of his life, Stefanie Fernandes (Anjali Patil), asking for her hand in marriage. To his utter shock, he discovers that it had never been delivered. All these years Ferdie has lived a life of melancholy regret, believing that Stefanie had rejected him. He decides to find his beloved Fanny (as he fondly called her) and tell her the truth. While Ferdie wonders where Fanny had been for 46 years, his friends decide to help him out. When Ferdie decides to take a trip in search of Fanny, four colorful characters from the village decide to join him. Among these are a young virgin widow (Deepika Padukone), a bitter mechanic (Arjun Kapoor), a belligerent artist (Pankaj Kapur) and an obnoxious self-appointed "Lady" of Pocolim (Dimple Kapadia). The comical story is not just Ferdie's journey to find love but also his friends' journey to find meaning in their pointless lives. Arjun Kapoor who enjoyed playing his role in Finding Fanny, gives the entire credit to the director. He says, "Homi was clear about what he wanted the film to be like. He wanted it to seem like a regular conversation, and to seem like it's out of real life. He wanted the quirkiness and humour to come out in a dead pan way. I enjoyed working on Finding Fanny. It was like a holiday for me." Deepika Padukone plays an equally quirky role in the film. The trailer reveals Dcepika (aka Angie) has suffered a failed relationship as she says, "The first time I was kissed was on my wedding day -- 15 minutes before my husband choked and died. I'm a virgin." Deepika Padukone, who has acted in major blockbusters from Om Shanti Om to Ramleela, is seen in a low-budget film for the first time. Explaining her decision to try out alternate cinema, she says, "You know, people think I've made this great strategic move by doing a film in English, alternate cinema and all that. But I am not playing chess and there are no calculated moves. Homi Adjania had told me about the 'Fanny' film during Cocktail and it stayed with me. During the promotion of Cocktail I said, 'Let's do it.' As soon as I found a 30-day window Finding Fanny happened." Just like as film script is off kilter, the actual shoot of the film was an out of the world experience. The director, Homi Adjania, says, "Finding Fanny was a shooting experience that was almost as goofy and hilarious as the story itself." When asked about the film production, the director said, "It was a very hard shoot, which we knocked off in 41 days and it was only possible owing to an amazing bunch of people." Naseeruddin Shah plays a phenomenal role as Ferdie. So does Dimple Kapadia. The director says, "I couldn't make the film without Naseer because nobody else could play his character. As for Dimple, if I make a film without her, she will have my head on a platter." Apart from the talented actors, the script of Finding Fanny will make the audience laugh and cry. After all, underneath the quirkiness, it is a touching tale of love lost and found. Expounding on the story and concept of Finding Fanny, he says, "Love makes normal people do nutty things. But what if they were already a little nutty to begin with? Deepika and Arjun kapoor signed the film before Chcnnai Express and Two States had released, and didn't waver because they had the same conviction." Now that's the dedication to making a good film.

Dr Cabbie Movie Review Release Date Sept 19, 2014

After the huge success of the My Big Fat Greek Wedding, it became okay to poke fun at your own ethnicity, mock the cultural specific lifestyles and in turn illuminate the hardships of immigrants to the wider world. Politically correct or not, the formula worked wonders. The result was sudden mushrooming of comical-satirical films in Bollywood that did just that. From Monsoon Wedding to "Slumdog Millionaire, the trend flourished, and put such multi-cultural Indian films on the map. Dr. Cabbie, a new film directed by Jean-Francois Pouliot, tells an immigrant's story in a style that is unique, comical and fresh. The director says, "Dr. Cabbie suffers no fear of revealing some of the quirks that Indian people often share. From the outset, the film sends us on a path that deletes political correctness, a path that sets the table for some refreshing and outright self-mockery. In order for that self-mockery to work, we will be attentive to details about the Indian culture, letting the audience know that the mockery is not the result of ignorance but the voice of an insider's point of view." Produced by Bollywood superstar Salman Khan, Dr. Cabbie is an out and out comedy. But underneath the laugh-a-minute ride, the film takes on serious hot-button issues of integration of qualified immigrants and the acute shortage of doctors in Canada.
If that sounds abstract, let's clue you in to the film plot: Dr. Deepak Veer Chopra (Vinay Virmani) after getting a medical degree in New Delhi, lands in Toronto, Canada to work with his uncle Vijay (Rizwan Manji) in his restaurant called Korma Sutra. Vijay is not as rich and successful as he claimed, leaving Deepak frustrated with his newfound opportunity. Furthermore, Deepak cannot practice medicine because his medical degree is not recognized in Canada. He decides to drive cabs for a living and rents an apartment with a roommate named Tony (Kunal Nayyar). One night, Deepak and Tony drive pregnant, legal assistant-turned-coffee shop employee Natalie Wilkes (Adrianne Palicki) to the hospital. Deepak
calls I, MAL WO Willy IS kll1ClItly crow g. Armed with no more than his wits, medical knowledge and whatever he can find in his cab, Deepak delivers the baby. This gives Deepak an idea and he converts his taxi into a mobile clinic. Soon people begin to call with medical problems and make special requests for Deepak's taxi. He treats and heals his passengers for free. Soon, Deepak earns the title of Dr. Cabbie. Dr. Cabbie is a heart-warming comedy that chronicles the bumpy journey of Deepak on the streets of Toronto as he faces roadblocks, learns from his challenges and grows to discover his true purpose. Lead actor and writer Vinay Virmani had been toying with this story idea for years. In 2012, he decided to write the script along with Manu Chopin and Ron Kennell. Fresh from the twin successes of Starbuck and Breakaway, Ontario-based Firsttake Entertainment and Caramel Films (Quebec) joined hands yet again, and Dr. Cabbie was born.
The film was partly shot in New Delhi and partly in Canada. The entire cast had a blast shooting in Ontario and seemed like one happy family. Director Jean-Francois Pouliot says, "We are thrilled to have such a talented cast who will tell this humorous and heart warming story." He adds, "Dr. Cabbie is a timeless story that audiences will identify with, blending social issues and the journey to find in one's place n the world Vinay Virmani, who was born and raised in Toronto, was thrilled to see how everything was turning out, saying, "From what I wrote to how it's looking today, the film is a hundred times bigger and better and more beautiful than I could have ever imagined it." Talking about the story, he said
that it has a universal appeal. "Although it's a Canadian story, it applies to families and young individuals all over the world," he explained. Perhaps that's why the film has an international star cast too. "India's really buzzing as well," he continued. "We have one of the biggest stars in India, Mr. Salman Khan, who's now presenting the film. And that's what I mean that the film is a very universal story." Kunal Nayyar from the Big Bang Theory is among the international names. Nayyar plays a fellow cabbie. "He's the first friend that I make in Canada. He's nothing like my character Deepak. He's crass, he's loud, he's great with women, and I'm terrible with women in the film. But he teaches me how to loosen up," says the lead actor Vinay Virmani. Other international names include Adrianna Palicki from G.I. Joe: Retaliation and Lillette Dubey who recently acted in The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel. Take a ride with Dr. Cabbie when it releases locally at September I 9th.

Saif Ali Khan Refuses To Work With Sajid Khan Again

With the debacle of Himmatwala and mixed reactions to Humshakals, we for sure know that the 'H' factor does not work for Sajid Khan anymore. In fact one of the leading ladies of the film, Bipasha Basu backed out from the promotions of Humshakals and Esha also revealed that she would not want her father to watch that film. If that wasn't enough, now, it is Saif Ali Khan who is not only disappointed by the film but has also refused to do a film with Sajid Khan again that did not work in favour of the film. Saif's supportive wife Kareena too wasn't happy when she first saw the trial of Humshakals. Apparently, Saif maintained that his wife had already warned him saying that his fans weren't expecting this from him. In 2013, Saif had announced a film with Sajid Khan when Humshakals was still being shot. But now, the actor is in no mood to continue the association. After vehemently deciding to not repeat the In an earlier interview, Saif had said that he hopes that Humshakals is one of Sajid's biggest hits but now with the criticism that the movie received on its release, Saif feels that he should not be opting for films with this kind of humour. According to this Saif, he does not enjoy this kind of humour and he was constantly trying to be somebody else in this film. Probably,
mistake again, Saif revealed that doing this untitled film with Sajid depended on Humshakals' response. Now with all the negative criticisms, he will not be doing a second film with the filmmaker. With Akshay Kumar too no longer associating himself with Sajid Khan, it seems like quite a herculean task for Sajid to make his next. Before Salman Khan Refuses To Work With Shahrukh Khan.

Has Govinda Given Up On Lead Roles

Govinda, who is known for his street dancing, acting and comedic timing, has finally decided to accept roles that are age appropriate. While there is no doubt that he is a fabulous actor, playing the hot young dude no longer goes with his age. The actor, was recently approached by Vikas Bahl (director of Queen) to play Ranbir Kapoor's daddy in Jagga Jasoos. Bahl offered Govinda the role of Alia Bhatt's father in his movie, Shaandar. Govinda, who has apparently accepted the offer will be playing a comic father which is a pivotal but small part in the movie. It's very interesting to see the actor select character oriented roles instead of going for the glitz and glamour of it. Besides this, Govinda has apparently signed nine more films where he will be seen doing small roles. Looks like, Govinda has been keeping himself extremely busy with work.

Continuing the trend is Karan Johar. He is a popular director-producer, but Karan's role as a negative character in Anurag Kashyap's Bombay Velvet has caught everyone's attention and now, we hear that the filmmaker has refused to take his fees and taken only Rs. 11 for good luck. Vikas Bahl, one of the producers of the film, stated that Karan has not taken his remuneration for his role in the film and that they are all indebted to him for his sweet gesture. While Karan has done cameos before, his role in Bombay Velvet is said to be a full-fledged one.

We Are in Good Phase Right Now - Ranbir Kapoor

We Are in Good Phase Right Now - Ranbir Kapoor, Who's completed seven years in the bollywood industry has seen the industry change a lot in this time. The actor talks about how to make cinema bigger and better.
Experiment: The Hindi film industry is in a very good phase right now. Newer minds from every aspect of cinema are coming in. The quality of stories is getting better, and actors are being brave in choosing roles. Also I feel directors today, the new and the established ones, seem to be pushing the envelope. These are signs of positive change.
Social media: If people like your film, there is a lot of positive feedback and word-of-mouth publicity. I remember when Besharam (2013) released, we were told that it opened to full houses. But at the end of the day, because people didn't like the film, there was negative word-of-mouth, and movie-goers' attendance suffered. Social media helps if you make a good film, especially for movies that don't have big star casts. For a film like Queen, which made a lot of money at the box-office, and is such a loved movie, social-networking sites helped. They've also come to the aid of smaller films. Today, movies are getting promoted on the social network, and the Internet should be explored wisely.
Embrace technology: We haven't fully explored the 3D genre yet, though things are getting interesting with films like Dhoom:3 (2013) releasing in the IMAX format. I know Christopher Nolan (filmmaker) makes all his films in that format. So, we're becoming more aware of technique. Look at a film-maker like James Cameron, who made Avatar (2009), which is probably one of the biggest films ever made. He's pushed the boundaries of technique, reinventing camera angles, 3D technology and sound. We have a lot to learn from such directors. Of course, they have an advantage because they have bigger budgets, and because they make films in English, they reach different corners of the world.
Keep it simple: I believe that storytelling is more important than technique. If you can tell a story in the newest, simplest form, it touches the audience — whether you want them to laugh, cry, or simply entertaining them.
Market wise: Earlier, there was over-marketing of everything. We used to spend 20-30 days when a film came out. That was overkill. You have to leave some mystery to your film, and to yourself as an actor, and let the audience come and explore it.
